A public home for thecraft, culture, andchemistry of lithography.

Lithography is 200 years old and still misunderstood. We're building the resources, tools, and community to change that.

The process.

Grease repels water. That's the whole secret.

01

Image

Draw directly on stone or plate with a greasy crayon or tusche. Wherever grease touches, ink will follow.

02

Etch

A weak acid solution fixes the image chemically into the stone, making the relationship between grease and water permanent.

03

Ink

Dampen the surface. Water settles on bare stone; ink adheres only where the greasy image lives.

04

Pull

Press dampened paper against the inked surface. Lift to reveal a print identical to your original drawing.
